Purpose of Punishment

The role of punishment in society is not about hurting the criminal. It is about rehabilitating them and enabling them to give something back to society. There is no point in simply locking someone up and then releasing them. This practice solves little as they leave prison more bitter than when they went in. There is a reason that in the UK 65% of offenders are re-convicted within two years, and in the USA 67% of former inmates released from state prisons will be reconvicted with at least one serious crime in three years, indeed there are an average of 18 offences for every one person who reoffends

Dawkins: Virus and KidsJust a quickie on Dawkins analogy of virus/religion and children and religion, by no means comprehensive, obviously. But it is my view on his arguements. Debate is welcome, especiallt if i have somthing wrong etc.
Dawkins uses the analogy of comparing religion to a virus. He argues that religion copies itself and spreads, this is true. The connotations of the comparison are obvious, Dawkins here intends readers to pick up a certain distaste for religion. However where his accurate observation falls down is that everything copies itself and multiplies. That is how i Dawkins: Virus and Kids

They think we arn't free?I have read a few deviations recently all dealing with issues in the modern world, namely freedom. Why do we have angsty people proclaiming that we have no freedom, that we are controlled by the media, and that Western Governments are all tryannies?! On the whole it seems a little thick and melodramatic. Surely?
We have obvious freedoms in the west, speech, movement, a free market and reasonoble democracies. Sure nothing is perfect but do these people realise how privileged we are to actually have these? Not only that but we hardly restricted. We are free to do mos They think we arn't free?
